When we talk about Indian kitchens, we are instantly transported to a heaven of spices, flavours and aromatic dishes. An average Indian kitchen is used at least 3 to 4 times in a day. So regular wear and tear is very common. While Electric Chimneys have gained popularity over the years, they are still a relatively newer concept. Our buying guide can assist you through your purchase with everything you would need to know before locking in on your Electric Chimney.

Find Your Type

Installing an Electric Chimney can be as smooth as a process you like, if you are well-prepared beforehand. One of the most important factors to consider is where you plan to install your chimney. Depending on your installation preferences, here are two types of Electric Chimneys.

  • Fitted against the wall
  • Ideal for wall-adjacent cooktops
  • Minimal setup and labour required

  • Fitted into the ceiling
  • Also known as Island Chimneys
  • Ideal for centrally placed cooktops that are away from the wall
  • Significant setup and labour required

Find Your Size

A quick and easy way to determine the size of the chimney you should buy is to take a closer look at your cooktop! Ideally, your Electric Chimney size should either be equivalent to or slightly bigger than your cooktop. This will ensure effective removal of smoke, grease and odours from your kitchen. Some suitable choices include:

60cm Electric Chimney for a single or two burner cooktop

90cm Electric Chimney for a three, four or five burner cooktop

Suction Capacity

Suction Capacity is the rate at which a chimney can remove air from the cooking area. It is measured in Cubic Metres per Hour (m3/hr) or Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM). The higher the suction capacity value, the more efficiency you will get from it. Choosing the right suction capacity is just as important as considering the right size. We recommend:

  • 600 to 800 m3/hr for less oily vegetarian food
  • 800 to 1200 m3/hr for oily vegetarian food
  • 800 to 1200 m3/hr for less oily non-vegetarian food
  • 1200 m3/hr and above for deep-fried non-vegetarian food

Noise Levels

A noisy chimney disturbing you through the day is something that you don't want. The good news is that Electric Chimneys come with noiseless technology. What you need to look for is a chimney with a noise level of less than 50dB, so that you can catch up with your friends on the phone while cooking up a storm!

Baffle Filter vs Filterless

Electric Chimney filters can be categorised as Baffle Filter Chimneys and Filterless Chimneys.

The Baffle Filter Chimney uses air-bending technology to separate oil or other heavier particles from smoke and dispose of them accordingly. The Filterless Chimney is true to its name, having no filters. Instead, there is an Auto Clean technology that accumulates the waste oil in an oil collector. The entire cleaning process for Filterless Chimneys takes 10 to 15 minutes, making them time efficient. Both Electric Chimneys come with wall and ceiling mounting options.

If you generally cook oily and spicier food, then the Baffle Filter Chimney is the right choice.

Speed Options

Basic chimneys have only one speed, but advanced models come with speed setting options. This is very helpful for people who like to cook with strong-smelling ingredients. It lets you adjust the suction speed and get rid of the odour faster.

Glass Style

Currently, we have two glass styles in India, namely Curved or Straight. Curved Glass looks modern, sleek, and offers a more pleasing view. Straight Glass Chimneys are known for their superior suction power and ability to eliminate smoke, oil, and odours.

Maintenance Service

Chimneys require regular servicing to function efficiently. Always opt for a brand that offers good installation and maintenance plans. Apart from this, you can always keep your chimney in a good shape by performing small tasks by yourself, such as cleaning the oil collector and filters.
